Recovery Is a Journey

So that we can best support the unique needs of our client we will carry out a psychiatric consultation. This is an evaluation of all of the factors that can cause a client to feel emotionally distressed. We provide a safe space, free from judgement, to allow us to fully understand the client, so as to create a specialist, appropriate treatment plan. We will explore the physiological, biological, social, and medical reasons for any mental health issues that a client might be experiencing.

A psychiatric consultation is a comprehensive, diagnostic evaluation which helps ensure the right level of care and treatments are provided to the client. Whether the client requires group therapy, one to one therapy, alternative or holistic therapy, or any other assistance on their recovery journey, a psychiatric consultation is the first step in diagnosing what they need.

Your physical state directly affects your mental state therefore it is imperative to understand a client’s physical health, beyond the effects that their substance abuse might have had. Understanding Psychiatric Conditions

Social Reasons for Emotional Distress

Some clients who recover from substance use disorder report instances of feeling like outsiders from the rest of society, whether or not people actually perceive them that way. These perceived social differences can play a part in the mental health of clients, and a psychiatric consultation aims to understand the barriers that prevent clients from feeling accepted in their lives. Growing demand for education and awareness of addiction is leading to the gradual de-stigmatization of substance abuse. The Excel Center aims to increase clients’ confidence in finding a new purpose in life and place in the world.

Current family relationships are also relevant to a psychiatric consultation in order to understand how a client’s substance use disorder has affected relationships with the people closest to them. Understanding that family ties predate substance use disorders, our psychiatrists aim to comprehend how clients interact with them now. If there are feelings of alienation, isolation, or tension within family relationships, our psychiatric consultation can offer services that will assist clients overcome these feelings and allow family relationships to flourish.
