How Assessments Can Help

Do I Need Treatment?

In order for clinics to properly understand a client’s history with substance abuse and the best pathway towards a healthier life, they need to undergo an assessment. Upon arrival at the clinic, clients will be screened for mental health-related issues, as well as answer a series of questions about their primary drug, as well as any other substances they use regularly.

We understand that substance use disorders are complex issues, and they will be recognized as such within our clinics. The stigmatization that surrounds substance abuse can be a huge barrier that prevents people from getting the help that they need. What to Expect

Pre-Assesment

The pre-treatment assessment that our clients undergo has their best interests at heart. In order to effectively treat a substance use disorder, we need to understand some of the underlying causes of the addiction, as well as triggers that may cause a relapse. Our clients’ health is our number one priority, and each question we ask is designed to help our clients during the recovery process. The assessment is also necessary before we can provide any sort of medication to assist in the withdrawal process. We will also outline a timeline for expected withdrawal, and the amount and type of therapy clients should receive.

During the assessment, patients may be asked questions such as:

How long have you used substances?
What is your primary substance?
Would you say you’ve built up a significant tolerance to this substance?
What do you not like about this substance?
Can you think of anything you used to do prior to abusing substances that gave you the same feelings of contentment or joy?
What do you expect to get out of treatment?
Why are you here?

Without an intervention into substance abuse, many users will continue down the dark road of addiction. An intervention doesn’t always look like the traditional interventions you may have seen on TV, or heard about on the rumor mill. An intervention is simply someone trying to help. Talking to your loved one about their drug use. Interventions can happen at your home, at the home of your loved one, we can even facilitate large group style interventions at our facilities. We are well trained in substance abuse disorders and can be persuasive in convincing people to seek the help that they deserve.

Intervening in substance use disorders and alcohol use disorder early on can have a tremendous impact on the outcome of the treatment. Generally speaking, with prolonged use it only becomes more difficult to cease abusing substances, so seeking help as soon as possible is highly recommended. The need for outside help to address a substance use disorder is nothing to be ashamed of and intervening in someone’s substance use disorder can be just the impetus they need to get start them off in the right direction.
